Manufacturing is one of the largest industries in the United States and it plays a large role in our country’s economy. In fact, it is projected that between 2018 and 2021 the manufacturing industry will grow from 1.5% to 2.8% in the United States. To better distinguish between the many manufacturing facilities and recognize which are the most reliable, it is helpful to first understand the importance of ASME and NBIC certifications.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers

Founded in 1880, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the practice of multidisciplinary engineering through research, certifications, and the development of codes and standards used around the world. Their codes and standards cover many technical areas, the largest of which is the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC). This standard regulates the construction of boilers and pressure vessels, from the design and fabrication to the installation and continued care.

ASME certifications are granted to businesses who prove they are committed to public safety and will maintain high standards of quality. Within the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, there are five categories for which a business can earn accreditation. SVI Industrial holds both “S” and “U” ASME stamps, which are certificates that recognize power boiler and pressure vessel installation and repair in accordance with ASME standards. Section IX of the ASME BPVC denotes the standards required for Welding, Brazing, and Fusing, and each of our skilled welding technicians are trained and certified according to these requirements.

National Board Inspection Code

The National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) serves as a guide for members of the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors. Since its first publication in 1946, the NBIC has become an internationally recognized standard adopted by most jurisdictions in the United States and Canada. The NBIC is organized into four parts—installation, inspection, repairs and alterations, and pressure relief devices—to coincide with the specific standards involved in all facets of pressure-retaining items.

SVI Industrial currently holds the NBIC “R” stamp, which denotes certification for the repair or alteration of boilers, pressure vessels, and other pressure-retaining items. Our industrial welding and fabrication services, which includes the repairs of heat exchangers and installation of turbine exhaust stack and gas turbine exhaust silencers, continually comply with all standards outlined in the NBIC.

At SVI Industrial, we are proud to hold both ASME and NBIC certifications, as they confirm that our team of welders and engineers are dedicated to the highest standards of quality, safety, and reliability.
